Richmond Head Coach Chris Mooney
On Richmond's Offense:
"It was night and day from Wednesday night. We had a lot of energy, we were able to score inside, we were able to do a lot of things well that we wanted to do offensively," Richmond head coach Chris Mooney said. "Everything we did offensively was pretty positive and we didn't have many turnovers. We didn't shoot well but that's going to happen sometimes. We had some open looks there, but offensively for the most part we played pretty well."
On Marist's Jared Jordan and Will Whittington:
"Those guys are very good players that do a lot of things well. Whittington is a tremendous shooter and Jordan is a great all-around player. We tried to not let them get as many open looks, but they hit a couple of contested shots. They're college players playing together for four years, so with that experience they were able to find some holes and do some things to get off open shots."
On Covering Whittington At The End Of Regulation:
"We were switching on everything, but we were a little late getting out on him. Obviously we should know he already hit six or seven 3s and you want to get out on him, but we were still a little slow. Maybe our freshmen hadn't seen a guy shoot like that when they were in high school. Give him a lot of credit and Jordan was a terrific player who found him a lot when he wasn't necessarily wide open to get him some good looks."
On Scoring Inside:
"That's what we really want to do. We have an advantage at some positions with Ryan (Butler), David (Gonzalvez) and Brian (Morris), our guards are pretty tall. They're crafty inside and have a chance to score. That's something we want to do every game. Get the ball inside, which will free up perimeter shots. I think we'll get better and better at that."
On Drew Cranks Valuable Minutes:
"Drew played well. He was very aggressive out there. We're looking to use Dan (Geriot) at forward so he and Drew can play together."
On The Learning Experience:
"Every single game we play is so important for our guys, being so young and inexperienced. Hopefully we can build on every single thing we do whether it is in practice or a game. We have to learn from it. We'd rather learn in a win, but sometimes maybe lessons are learned better in a loss."
Marist Head Coach Matt Brady
On Getting The Win:
"Obviously we're happy to come out with a win, we really had to grind it out there. That was a great pass to set up the shot and a great shot by Whittington to send the game to overtime. In overtime I think we gained confidence."
On Playing Richmond:
"That's a really difficult style to play against. People make a big deal about their offense, but I think their defense is tremendous and they are going to really get better and better over this year and the years go forward. We're happy to get out of here with a win."
Richmond Senior Peter Thomas
On The Game:
"We had a chance to beat a team that I think will play in the postseason, quite possibly in the NCAA Tournament. It really hurts right now. We had a lead there and were in control of the game, all we got to do is stop them from shooting a 3 at the end of regulation and we weren't able to do that."
On The Effort:
"At least we came out and played. The effort was there tonight, the intensity was there and we made some plays. Ninety-five percent of the game we played pretty well.
Richmond Freshman Ryan Butler:
On The Game:
"We knew we needed to have a good game after Wednesday. We needed to get out start moving better and quicker. We gave it a good fight, we just let it slip away at the end."
On Scoring In The Post:
"We emphasize posting our guards a lot, because we have big guards. I got a couple of looks early and made a couple of shots. That made it easier to get the rest of my game going."
On Learning From Senior-Laden Marist:
"Anytime you play an experience team like that, you learn a lot. They made a couple of big plays. We gave up a 3 early in overtime to Whittington. We've got to be more focused the entire game and limit their opportunities to get open shots. Experience played a little big. They've been in that situation obviously a lot more than we have. We through if we ran our stuff we would get what we wanted. We're coming along, we're getting more experience."
On Getting A Career-High Eight Rebounds:
"That's something I tried to emphasize this week in practice. The other night I had no rebounds so I was trying to fly in there and get some extra rebounds because we're limited size-wise, so I'm trying to help out Dan (Geriot), Jarhon (Giddings) and Drew (Crank)."
On Rebounding From Wednesday Night:
"After watching the game it was almost embarrassing to see how we played. Give credit to Radford, but the way we played, we should have never come out like that. Tonight we focused on coming out to play right away. We're just trying to keep improving ourselves."
