Richmond defeated a Big East team for the third-straight season. It was the second time in three years that the Spiders won on the home court of a Big East team.
The Spiders have six wins in 16 games all-time against Big East conference teams. Richmond has wins over South Florida (Dec. 5, 2006), Seton Hall (2004, 2005), West Virginia (2001), Providence (1983) and the well know victory over No. 2 seed Syracuse in the 1991 NCAA Tournament.
Richmond head coach Chris Mooney improved to 3-1 against Big East teams, having held all four Big East opponents to 53 points or less. In both victories as head coach at Richmond, Mooney held the Big East team under 50 points. Richmond defeated Seton Hall 60-49 and South Florida tonight 56-46. The Spiders held then No. 5 ranked Louisville to 53 points in a 53-45 loss on Dec. 5, 2006. As head coach at Air Force, Mooney led the Falcons to a 70-53 victory over Rutgers in the 2004-05 season.
The Spiders have held opponents to 50 points or less in 12 of 37 games under second-year head coach Chris Mooney. Richmond has held teams to 60 points or less 20 times in 37 games under Mooney. The Spiders have allowed over 70 points just four times under Mooney.
A season-high six different players made a 3-pointer against South Florida. Richmond has had at least five different players make a 3-pointer in its four victories. At least three different players have made a 3-pointer in each of Richmond's seven games.
