Head Coach Chris Mooney
On Richmond's Play:
"I thought our inexperience showed up during a fair amount of the game. At the same time I think some of our potential showed up, I think we have some pretty good players, unfortunately so may of them are freshmen."
On the Importance of Defense in the Game:
"I think the team that plays better defense can dictate the game. In the first half I thought our defense was very good and they had to work the ball around and there weren't a lot of easy baskets for them. In the second half, their defense was relentless. Their pressure was very good and they turned us over a fair amount, and that's how the game starts to get going the way they want it to go."
On How the Freshman Handled the Defensive Pressure:
"We were a little bit rattled by the course of the game, or the pressure. And for their eighth college game, to play against pressure like that, it's a challenge."
On the Development of David Gonzalvez:
"I think that David (Gonzalvez) is the most physically ready freshman. I think that really helps him, but more than that, he's very competitive, he's a very smart player, he plays very hard. I think he's going to be really, really good."
VCU Head Coach Anthony Grant
On Getting the Win in the Robins Center:
"Any time you can come on the road, and get a win in a hostile environment against a very good basketball team, a very skilled basketball team, you've got to enjoy that. This is the first time we've played against a team that ran that type of offense."
On the Young Richmond Team:
"As a basketball team, for as many young guys as they've got, it seems like every game that you watch them, they're going to be really, really good. I watched tape of four of their games and they compete, they play well together, they've got chemistry, they've got a high skill level and they're figuring it out as a basketball team. People talk about them being good next year, but I think they're going to be dangerous over the course of this year."
Richmond Freshman David Gonzalvez
On VCU's Pressure
"We were a little rattled to begin with, I think if we would have just came out more calm, we would've have been in the game the whole game and had a chance to pull it out."
On Richmond's Offense
"We didn't execute on our advantages. I think we could have been more patient in making better decisions once we broke the press. We've just got to calm down and trust our offense."
Richmond Senior Peter Thomas
On the Fatigue from VCU's Pressure:
"It's obviously a strain dealing with the pressure. I think we were taking seven or eight seconds every time getting it just over half court, so obviously that takes a lot a way from your legs."
On Richmond's Offense:
"I think when we were successful is when we were able to control the tempo of the game. There were some times when we handled the pressure pretty well and when we got into our half-court sets, that's when I think we controlled the game and were able to get back into the game.
