BRONX, N.Y. - University of Richmond senior Jermaine Bucknor scored 20 points, but the Spiders suffered a 63-45 loss to Fordham on Wednesday night in the Bronx.
The Spiders had trouble with Fordham's pressure defense in scoring just 45 points, Richmond's lowest point-total since a Dec. 22 loss to Tulane.
"They were very aggressive, they pressured us throughout the game, they really bothered us," Richmond head coach Chris Mooney said. "They had a great game plan and they played very well. They got us out of what we were trying to do and kept us from getting any kind of rhythm going."
Richmond junior Peter Thomas added 10 points for the Spiders, who dropped to 11-9 overall and 4-3 in the Atlantic 10. Thomas hit a 3-pointer to pull Richmond within four at 19-15, but Fordham (9-11, 4-3) used an 11-2 run to take control.
Jermaine Anderson scored 15 points and became the 30th Fordham player to reach 1,000 for his career
Marcus Stout led the Rams (9-11, 4-3 Atlantic 10) with 17 points and Kevin Anderson added 10.
Nick Vita's layup closed the Fordham surge and Stout scored seven during the run.
A layup by Thomas cut Fordham's lead to 35-28 at 15:38 of the second half, but Jermaine Anderson tallied six points in a 9-2 run that boosted the Rams' advantage to 44-33. Anderson had a pair of free throws to finish off the spurt.
"Fordham, tonight, was the most impressive team we've played in the Atlantic 10 so far," Mooney said. "They have three losses, so it's obviously a balanced league."
Richmond will play at the first place team in the Atlantic 10, No. 10 ranked George Washington (16-1, 6-0 Atlantic 10) on Sunday at noon.
