Richmond Coach Chris Mooney
On Charlotte
"Charlotte has a variety of ways to beat you. They can get you from the outside and they have (Curtis) Withers that you have to always worry about. They are very difficult to defend. That's why we were so happy when we beat them the first time. They are such a good program."
Of Letting Charlotte Pull Away
"It was a six-point game midway through the second half and we had some chances to get it closer, but we made some costly mistakes. We have such a small margin for error, we have to take advantage of our opportunities. When we make mistakes, it makes it very difficult on us."
On The Pivotal Point In The Game
"In the key situations, these times in a game that are pivotal, we have to be better. Who knows what happens if we make good plays at that point."
On What Charlotte Did Differently From The Last Meeting
"They played a little bit more zone up at our place, they played mostly man-to-man tonight. They were definitely more aggressive tonight. They really brought it to us right from the beginning and we were a little on our heels. They were definitely the aggressor tonight."
On What Hurt Richmond
"They had so many transition baskets, especially in the first half. They really got a lot of points off of our turnovers. We can't afford to let a team score in transition."
On Jermaine Bucknor Being Held Scoreless
"It's not a surprise to anybody that he had 23 the first time, so they were obviously guarding him. The looks he was getting were ok, but you can't help a guy who's pressing. Even a fifth-year senior, as much as you tell him don't worry about it, he's living with fact - and I don't care - but he's living with the fact that he's struggling. You can't help a guy who's pressing. He did threw two nice passes into the post tonight that were important plays for us, he helped us get the offense moving. I don't think he forced anything, but at same time they were really focusing on him."
On What Charlotte Did Differently On Bucknor
"They guarded him much harder this time. They made a conscious effort to guard him harder and (De'Angelo) Alexander did a great job on him. Jermaine struggled to find any opening."
On Richmond's Effort
"The effort was good and I thought the defense was better, every 3-pointer they made wasn't necessarily easy. It's difficult because of our struggles offensively and our ball-handling issues, we need to keep improving."
On Giving Up Points Outside the Half-Court Offense
"We don't keep that stat, but I don't know how many points they scored in their half-court offense. There were not a ton of plays that they scored in their half-court offense, but they got a lot on transition plays off of very controlled turnovers, You can commit turnovers that don't turn into points, but when you commit turnovers that lead directly to points, you're in trouble. We're having such a hard time scoring so we can't give up such easy baskets."
On The Bench Play
"I think our bench did play well. Duncan seemed to be around all these loose balls and rebounds and Monty and Drew played well. I don't think anybody played that poorly, but you're playing against a national program you are going to have to do things better. You have to have nine turnovers instead of 17 and you have to shoot 40 percent from 3 instead of 30 percent.
On Richmond's Five-Game Losing Streak
"I don't want to look at it as a five-game losing streak, I want to look at it one game at a time. We just have to get back at it and keep improving."
Richmond Sophomore Monty Sanders
On What Hurt Richmond
"We were playing pretty good defensively, we were eliminating fast-break points and easy buckets, but then we got away from that and lost focus. We had a couple of key turnovers and had a really bad segment there, and went down hill."
On The Three Guys That Contribute Off Richmond's Bench
"We just try to make sure we give a lift when we come in and not the opposite. We have to come in and bring energy. We have to provided a lift, physically and emotionally."
On Bucknor Struggling
"We have to remind Buck that he is still one of best players in the conference and he has been unbelievably clutch for us. He is still a great player and we don't care how many shots he misses, we have to remind him that he is our leader and he is still our best player. He has to just keep playing."
On Richmond's Being Fatigued
"We have to remind each other that it's not just the 27th game for us, it's the 27th for everybody. Everybody's tired, they're as tired as we are. The past few games we haven't been on winning streak, but I don't think we've given up in any game, we've kept fighting till the end."
On Playing No. 7 Ranked George Washington Saturday
"If you look at the league, everybody's bunched up, so one win can really put you up for tournament seeding. We just have to get back, get rested, get ready for practice Friday, and do a good job Saturday."
