Bucknor Named Second-Team All-Conference; Thomas Earns All-Academic Honors

Senior Jermaine Bucknor was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second-Team in voting conducted among the conference's head coaches.
Junior Peter Thomas was selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team in voting conducted by the conference's sports information directors.
Bucknor finished the regular season leading the Spiders in scoring at 13.5 points per game. He was second on the team in rebounding (4.3 rpg) and led the team with 35 steals. He has made 65 3-pointers this season and has 149 career 3-pointers, which ranks fifth on the school's all-time list.
The senior from Alberta, Canada has reached double figures 21 times this season and has made at least three 3-pointers in a game 12 times. Richmond is 10-2 when he makes at least three 3-pointers in a game.
"This has been a goal of mine since I came here, but last year I just didn't help my team enough," Bucknor said. "Anytime you get recognized with an honor like this, it is something to be proud of."
"Jermaine has been our best and most consistent player all season and I congratulate him on this honor," Richond head coach Chris Mooney said. "Pete is a former walk-on who has earned a scholarship and continues to solidify his reputation at Richmond."
Thomas was a walk-on his first two years at Richmond, but earned a scholarship this season and has started every game. He leads the team in minutes played, averaging 34.0 per game, and is third in scoring (6.4 ppg).
The Spiders head to Cincinnati, Ohio on Tuesday in preparation for the 2006 Atlantic 10 Tournament which begins Wednesday. Richmond is the No. 11 seed after finishing 6-10 in conference play (13-16 overall).
The Spiders will play No. 6 seed Fordham (14-15, 9-7 Atlantic 10) in the first round match-up. Fordham defeated Richmond 63-45 in their only meeting this season, but the Spiders hold a 5-4 advantage in the all-time series. Richmond defeated Fordham 67-47 in the first round of the 2004 Atlantic 10 Tournament.
The winner of the Richmond-Fordham first round game will play No. 3 seed La Salle on Thursday at 8 p.m.
