Crocus And Smith Post Victories at Lou Onesty Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - Richmond junior throwers Lindsey Smith and Beth Crocus each won events at the Lou Onesty/Abramson Invitational held Friday and Saturday at the University of Virginia.
Smith won the javelin with a heave of 150-feet-3, along with finishing 14th in the shot put with a toss of 40-5. Junior Beth Crocus won the hammer with a heave of 178-6.
Richmond's 4x400 relay team of senior Danielle Eaton, freshman Jessica Young, sophomore Tara Markey and senior Amy Thesing set the school record in 3:53.16 on the way to a seventh-place finish.
Young finished third in the 400-meter dash in 55.02 seconds. Senior Diana Morse placed fifth in the 1,500 in 4:42.01, leading three Spiders that finished in the top eight of that race. Morse also finished 32nd in the 800 in 2:24.19.
Sophomore Kylee Schuler placed sixth in the 1,500 in 4:42.06 and was 32nd in the 800 in 2:24.62. Senior Nicole Kurtain placed eighth in the 1,500 in 4:43.72.
Thesing took 11th in the 400 hurdles in 1:04.94, while Eaton placed 14th in the 800 in 2:18.30. Freshman Jasmine Major was 27th in the 100 hurdles in 15.03 seconds.
Markey took 37th in the 400 dash in 1:02.01 and was 57th in the 200 in the 27.28. Freshman Stephanie Lapp finished 49th in the 100 dash in 13.50 seconds and took 65th in the 200 dash in 27.95 seconds. Freshman Emily Nagle took 39th in the 1,500 in 5:11.97.
On the men's side, freshman Jeff Strojny took 31st in the 800 in a time of 1:58.15, leading a group of six Spiders in the event. Freshman Greg Hoffman took 45th in the 800 (1:59.80), sophomore David Delaplaine was 50th (2:00.16), sophomore Brendan Regan took 57th (2:00.76), freshman Sean Welsh was 62nd (2:01.40) and freshman Garrett Graham took 85th (2:04.99).
Graham finished 29th in the 1,500 (4:00.47), while sophomore Mike Stubbs took 51st (4:07.83), sophomore Hunter Willis was 58th (4:09.68) and sophomore Peter Norquist was 71st (4:16.26.).
Junior Rusty Burrell finished 23rd in the high jump, clearing 6-0 3/4, and he took 27th in the 400 hurdles in 58.71 seconds. Sophomore Neil Slotterback finished 15th in the javelin with a throw of 139-2.
Richmond returns to action April 22 at the Metro Championships in Emmetsburg, Md.
