EWING, Va. - Richmond freshman Jessica Young broke her own school record in the 400-meter dash at The College Of New Jersey Invitational on Saturday.
Young won the 400 dash in 54.01, besting her old school record of 54.68. It was the fourth time this spring that Young broke the record in the outdoor 400. Her time in the 400 qualifies her for the NCAA Regional Championships. She has qualified in both the 200 and 400 for the NCAA Regionals and USA Junior National Championships.
Young already has her name etched alongside six school records. She holds indoor records in the 60, 200 and 400, and outdoor records in the 200, 400 and as a member of the 4x400 relay team.
Richmond's 4x100 relay team of senior Danielle Eaton, freshmen Stephanie Lapp, Jasmine Major and Young finished first in 48.19 seconds.
Eaton finished second in the 800 run in 2:15.69, while senior Diana Morse took fifth in 2:18.64. Sophomore Tara Markey placed sixth in the 400 dash in 58.51 seconds and Lapp took 19th in the 100 dash in 13.56 seconds.
On the men's side, junior Rusty Burrell took fifth in the high jump, clearing 6-foot-2 3/4. Chris Kondorossy took 12th in the shot put at 41-7 3/4 and finished 16th in the discus with a toss of 115-6.
This was the last tune-up before the 2006 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be held May 6-7 in Charlotte N.C.
