HUNTINGTON, W.V. - The University of Richmond men's golf team is in fourth place out of 15 teams after two rounds of the Marshall Invitational played Friday at Guyan Golf and Country Club.
Richmond shot a pair of 10-over-par 294 in the first two rounds to sit at 20-over-par 588. The Spiders, who are coming off a victory at the Towson Invitational last weekend, trail first-place Eastern Michigan (579) by nine strokes heading into Saturday's final round. Akron is in third place at 583 and the host Marshall is in third at 587.
"The guys played well on a tricky golf course," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said. "It's nice to be competitive with some teams that we haven't faced this year."
Richmond sophomore Jordan Utley was tied for the lead after shooting a 1-under-par 70 in the first round and is in fourth place after two rounds. He carded a 3-over 74 in the second round to enter Saturday at 2-over-par 144. Utley will be looking for his second-straight top-5 finish of the season and his fourth of the year. He finished third at the Towson Invitational last weekend.
Sophomore Chris Bagley is tied for 13th at 4-over-par 146. Bagley shot a 75 in the first round and an even-par 71 in the second round.
Senior Tyler Randol and freshman Tim Courtney are tied for 35th at 8-over 150. Randol shot a 76 in the morning round and a 74 in the afternoon round, while Courtney shot 75s in each round. Sophomore Billy Hanes is tied for 61st at 11-over-par 153 (74-79).
