Crocus Tabbed A-10 Performer Of Week; Young Wins Eighth Rookie Of Week Award

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond junior Beth Crocus was named Atlantic 10 Women's Track Performer of the Week after winning the javelin at the Penn Relays, while freshman Jessica Young was tabbed the conference's rookie of the week for breaking her own school record in the 400-meter dash.
Crocus became the first University of Richmond athlete to win a title at the prestigious Penn Relays, taking first in the college division javelin with a personal best throw of 153-feet-6. She also broke her own school record in the hammer throw with a heave of 182-2, which put her third in the college division.
This was the second Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honor this spring for Crocus, who was named the conference's co-performer of the week on April 10 after breaking her own school record in the hammer at the Duke Relays. She has been named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week three times in her career.

Crocus, the defending Atlantic 10 hammer champion, has qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in both the hammer and javelin.
Young won the 400-meter dash at the College of New Jersey Invitational on Saturday with a new school record time of 54.01 seconds, which qualifies her for the NCAA Regional Championships. It was the fourth time this spring Young broke the 400-dash school record. She will now run in the NCAA Regional Championships and the USA Junior National Championships in both the 200 and 400 dashes.
Young, who is earning her fourth Atlantic 10 Outdoor Rookie of the Week honor and her eighth including indoor, also ran a leg of the 4x100 relay team that finished first in 48.19 seconds.
Richmond will compete in the 2006 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday at Charlotte's Irwin Belk Track & Field Center.
