UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond head women's soccer coach Peter Albright announced today that Dani Amarant, Mairead Gordon and Ali LeVIne will serve as the Spiders' team captains for the 2006 season.
"The thing that distinguishes these three players is the positive energy that they bring to the team," stated Albright. "These players personify the work ethic and commitment that we expect from all the players. They are already outstanding captains."
Amarant, a senior back from Danville, California, missed the majority of the last two seasons due to injury; however, she was a standout player her freshman season, starting all 18 contests for the Spiders and earning Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team and All-Championship team honors.
Gordon, a senior midfielder/defender from Forest Hill, Maryland, has played in 53 games for the Spiders earning 33 starts. As a sophomore, her solid play in the back helped a defense that allowed just 0.83 goals per game.
LeVine, a junior back from Avon, N.J., has played in 33 games for the Spiders, starting 22 of those contests. She has scored five goals and added four assists in her career at Richmond. Last season, Levine led the team in assists, finished third on the team for points, goals and shots and was named to the VCU/Comfort Inn Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Amarant, Gordon, LeVine and the Spiders will open the 2006 campaign on August 25 at the JMU/Comfort Inn Invitational as they face West Virginia at 5 p.m.
