Women's Soccer Hosts James Madison On Thursday

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The 2006 Richmond women's soccer squad will open its home season this Thursday with James Madison at 7:00 p.m. at First Market Stadium, looking to extend its 11-game undefeated streak at home.
The Spiders (0-2-0) opened their season this past weekend at the JMU/Comfort Inn Invitational with a 3-0 loss to 18th-ranked West Virginia and a 2-1 heartbreaking loss to Rutgers in the final 44 seconds of play.
Sophomore Julia Bizer leads all Spiders after scoring their lone goal of the tournament and getting selected to the All-Tournament Team. Junior Christine Wrublesky joined Bizer on the All-Tournament Team as well for her aggressive play in the midfield.
The Dukes are currently 0-2-0 after opening their season with a 3-1 loss to Rutgers and a 5-1 loss to No. 18 West Virginia at the JMU/Comfort Inn Invitational this past weekend. Jess Remmes leads the Dukes after scoring both of James Madison's goals this past weekend.
"Thursday's game should be a great game," stated head coach Peter Albright. "Both teams are looking for their first wins of the season and both teams played great in stretches this past weekend (at the JMU/Comfort Inn Invitational)."
The Spiders have not lost a game at home since August 27, 2004, when the Dukes took a one-goal victory over the Spiders. James Madison leads the series 5-9-1 and has won the last two meetings, including a close game in the Spiders' season opener at the JMU/Comfort Inn Invitational last season. Jessie Wolfe and Ali LeVIne notched in goals in Richmond's 3-2 loss to the Dukes.
"There is a great rivalry going back over 10 years and it always seems to be a great game," continued Albright. "We are looking forward to playing them at our place."
Following Thursday night's contest, the Spiders will resume action on Sunday when they will host cross-city rival Virginia Commonwealth at 7:00 p.m. at First Market Stadium. Live coverage for Thursday's and Sunday's game is available at www.RichmondSpiders.com.
