UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond women's soccer team travels to Philadelphia, Pa. this weekend to participate in the Penn Invitational. Tournament action starts for the Spiders on Friday at 5:00 p.m. with the Princeton Tigers and continues on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 with the Pennsylvania Quakers at Rhodes Field.
The Spiders (0-4-0) are coming off a 1-0 setback to VCU on Sunday and a 4-2 loss to James Madison on Tuesday night when freshman Kristen Stalter scored both goals for the Spiders and the first of her collegiate career.
"We were not outplayed by better teams with VCU and JMU," stated Richmond head coach Peter Albright. "We just didn't do the things we needed to do to win. We will keep learning the hard lessons and moving forward."
Princeton (0-1-0) will also be looking for its first win of the season after dropping to Boston University 2-0 in their season opener on Sept. 2. The Tigers finished the 2005 season with an 8-6-2 record and placed second in the Ivy League with a 5-2-0 conference mark.
Richmond currently leads the Spider-Tiger series 1-0 after handing the Tigers a 3-1 loss in the University of Richmond Wachovia Classic in 2000.
Pennsylvania (0-0-1) played to a 0-0 draw with Rice on Sept. 4 in its season opener and recorded an 8-6-3 overall record last season, finishing tied for fifth in the Ivy League with a 2-3-2 conference mark. Richmond also leads the Spider-Quakers series 1-0 after taking a 4-0 triumph over the Quakers in the JMU/Comfort Inn Classic.
"Princeton is good and Pennsylvania is at our level," stated Albright. "We've had a demanding stretch - our first six games are difficult. There is a big emotional challenge for us right now to be survivors. We are capable of playing at a high level, but we need to be more consistent."
