Richmond Head Coach Mooney
On The Game:
"I am proud of my guys for their effort. I congratulate GW. GW is tough team to beat whether they are playing on all cylinders or a little bit behind. We battled and played very hard. I thought our defense was good, it was solid."
On The Losing Out At The End
"The game came down to a couple plays toward the end. It was a loose ball at the end that GW gets and Rice puts it in from 15 feet. We came down and committed a charge on a lay-up. When you are young there are plays that you do or do not make. You have got to make so many to get in that position and it's hard to make the plays to finish it out."
Looking Forward
"I am very encouraged at how we are playing. I am excited about the team, the future, all the guys that we have. GW is a benchmark in our league. We didn't play our best game, and I think Karl would say they didn't play their best either, but we hung in with competitiveness and toughness."
On Staying Positive
"Our message needs to be consistent and our standard needs to be set high. On the inside, the practices, and the times we spend together all seem to move in a positive direction."
Richmond Sophomore Jarhon Giddings
"If we come up with some of those loose balls toward the end and cut our turnovers down we could have won. We were right there at the end of the game"
On The First-Half Turnovers
"In the first half they got a lot of points off of turnovers. In the second half coach told us to focus on taking care of the ball. Coach Mooney really stressed that at half time."
On Making Four 3-Pointers
"I was taking what the defense was giving me. My teammates did a great job of finding me when I was open."
On Maureece Rice's Shot In The Last Minute
"We got our center, Drew was in at the time, on Rice and that is a tough match up. We tried to help as much as we could, but he still had to take a tough shot and made it. He still had to shoot over Drew at the end."
On What The Spiders Need To Do Going Forward
"We just need to keep playing hard in practice every day and hopefully that carries over to the game."
George Washington Head Coach Karl Hobbs
On Richmond
"Every game down here has been this type of ball game - I think it's going to continue that way. The one thing I will say is a year from now or two years from now I don't want to play them at all, I think that they are going to be a very good team, one of the better teams in this league. They have all the ingredients to really be terrific, the only thing they are missing right now is experience and that is going to take some time.
On Dokum Akingbade:
"I tell you in the second half, I feel that he played magnificent, I challenged him at half time and `told him big fella you got to step up'...I think the biggest thing he did, he took a charge and that was the difference in the game. If he's not there taking that charge we aren't sitting here with a win"
On GW's Defensive Pressure
"I thought that was another aspect of the game that really turned it around for us. I thought in the second half they were really executing, I think at one point they might have been shooting 60 percent. The only thing that was keeping us in the game was that we were turning them over, getting some steals and converting some baskets."
On Maureece Rice
"Maurice Rice made a big shot in the second half and that got us over the hump. As most of you know he is struggling with a little bit of the flu and hasn't really practiced in the past two days. That was a really big shot for him."
On Richmond's Type of Game
"What we didn't want to do was fall behind by ten or twelve points because the way they play, and I have got to give them just all the credit in the world. I think coach has got those young guys really understanding his system and I thought they executed very well."
Dokum Akingbade
On His Last-Minute Charge:
"I knew I couldn't block the shot so I just tried to step in as fast as I could and luckily the ref called it for us."
On His Game Tonight:
"My goal is to do whatever I can to help our team win and that's what I did tonight."
