Richmond Head Coach Chris Mooney
On The Game
"If we had come out with the same attitude and effort in the first half, I think we would have fared a little bit better. They killed us on the boards and went to the line almost triple the amount of times we did. That's a difficult hole to climb out of. Give La Salle credit, they played with aggression."
On The Possibility Of The Team Being Tired
"That's a concern of any team, especially with this many freshmen. It takes its toll on you, the season takes its toll on you."
On Being Hesitant In The First Half
"We've been a lot less hesitant in the second half. I think that's a product of youth. I don't think we come out moving hard enough in the first half. The harder you are moving, the more confidence you gain. It's about getting yourself into the game earlier."
On Richmond's Effort
"I think the effort is there most of the time, but the question is how much effort is being given."
On Richmond's Offensive Aggression
"It's frustrating because in our offense we were very aggressive throwing the ball into the low post a ton, not just to Dan and Drew, but to our guards and forwards. I thought we drove the ball to the basket a lot."
On Getting Beaten on The Boards
"We were crushed on the backboards, that's something we need to solve. If we can just get better and a little closer (on the boards), so we can stand to compete for the entire game."
On Applying Full-Court Presure
"Not that we are yet, but I think that we could be a really good pressing team. I think that that could happen for us. La Salle doesn't have a true point guard, they bring the ball up with their four man helping them, so we thought we could get to him and pressure them."
On Richmond Offensively
"Our turnovers were under 10, and while our shooting wasn't good, on offense we were aggressive, we got in the paint and had opportunities. We just weren't aggressive enough."
On Ryan Butler
"Eleven points, five rebounds, three assists and no turnovers, Ryan was very good. I think he's has been good, his consistency is much, much better. In practice and games he hasn't been down nearly as much on himself. I think that he's really coming along, his progress has been good. We certainly are looking forward to this and think he is going to have a great career at Richmond."
On Keeping The Young Players Focused During The Grueling Season
"That's the challenging part, to balance that and at the same time you're trying to create high standards for your program and your team. Every practice and every game, you have to make sure they understand the demands of being a college basketball player. At the same time you want them to have the confidence to go out and play."
On How To Regroup
"Tomorrow's practice will be interesting. The effort was good in the second half, but not as good in the first half. We have to find out what it takes to have it be there in both halves. That's on myself, that's on my staff, the players, to make us ready to play. As difficult a challenge as that is right now, there are bright futures for several of our players. We need to stay in there with them."
Richmond Senior Peter Thomas
On Richmond's Lack Of Rebounding
"Obviously it comes down to boxing out. We have to find a body. We're not as big as other teams and we're playing zone so we are going to give up a few rebounds, but we have to be more physical and get a body on people."
On Starting Slow
"For some reason lately it takes us getting down eight before we start to play. We have to come out right away and have fight. We're getting down and then realizing that we have to fight. We can't do that."
Richmond Freshman Ryan Butler
On Playing Defense
"
"We've been working hard on trying to keep our body in front rather than put our hands on (dribblers). It didn't show up tonight."
