Richmond Head Coach Chris Mooney
On The Game
"I thought that our defense is getting better, I think we were aggressive we had 13 steals and forced some turnovers, but we didn't shoot well enough to give ourselves a good enough chance. I'm not sure about the slow start and why that happened, and why that has happened, that has been certainly disappointing and something that we are addressing, and hasn't been something we have been able to solve."
On Drew Crank's Aggressiveness
"I think it was the main thing, he had great intensity, he was very aggressive from the first possession. He was very active rebounding and good defensively and he was just very, very aggressive. And it was on the heels of his best practice of his career. So he had a great practice followed by a very good game."
On Offensive Confidence
"I certainly agree that confidence and aggression go hand in hand. We haven't turned the ball over much, we are not overly relying on 3-point shots - maybe a third of our shots are threes where last year we were more reliant and weren't as good as shooters. So I think we get more drives and post-ups, so I'm not sure exactly what the reason is (for not having confidence),"
On Changing The Pre-Game Routine
"We changed the routine before the game - just maybe trying to get them to talk to one another, firing each other up. Those things are important, I don't think that they carry the day necessarily but I think as a jump-starter, when you are struggling, they certainly help. We had an excellent practice on Thursday and a very good practice yesterday. Not to take anything away from St. Bonaventure, I just felt that we would come out and play really well and be the aggressor. And again it doesn't seem like its from the first possession, it seems like that after we can't score or don't score for maybe four or five possessions in, that affects how we are playing."
Richmond Junior Drew Crank's
On The Game
"The past few games we have come out slow, Dayton and LaSalle digging too big of a hole in the beginning. Everyone's trying to find a way to motivate each other and fire each other up so we can play a full 40 minute game. We've played 30 minutes, but we just play that 10 minute stretch where we create these holes that we can't get out of. In practice I have been just trying to zone everything out and play my game and just not worry about anything else, and just play basketball and try and give that spark to the team, and hope that its like a domino effect."
On His Approach Tonight
"I don't believe that there is a big difference, I just think that we came out and I just came out and I knew that every rebound was going to be mine. And I went out there with the aggression just knowing. I feel like the more aggressive I play, the more aggressive the team plays and I just wanted to help get the team going and hopefully continue to do this more than just once."
St. Bonaventure Head Coach Anthony Solomon
On The Difference Between Tonight And The Last Meeting On Jan. 10
"Richmond made the plays when we played back on January 10. They made the plays that evening. Certainly I believe our players became more familiar with their personnel. The second time around we were able to execute on a higher level."
On Richmond
"Playing against Richmond, who has a unique style, is not easy to do. We only gave up only one back door basket in a 40 minute game against a well executing team with the style of play they do. That was really great for us and much improved."
