Crocus, Young Break Their Own School Records

Senior Beth Crocus and sophomore Jessica Young each broke their own school records at the Penn State National Invitational on Saturday.
The Spiders split squads between the Penn State National Invitational and the George Mason Patriot Games.
Penn State National Invitational
Crocus threw the weight 55-feet-9 inches to beat her old mark of 55-7 1/2. She finished 10th in the event.
Young ran the 200-meter dash in a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 24.10, which was the fastest time in the open race and would have been the seventh-fastest time in the invitational 200. Young edged her old school record time of 24.13. She also finished third in the 400 dash in 54.60.
Freshman Amy Van Alstine finished ninth in the 3,000 invitational in 9:58.78, while junior Kylee Schuler took fifth in the open 3,000 in 10:14.44. Freshman Alyssa Mankin took 10th in the 1,000 in 3:04.39 and sophomore Karen Guthrie placed 13th in the 5,000 in 18:21.17.
Sophomore Mary Bertram finished 14th in the 5,000 in 18:23.28, junior Tara Markey was 14th in the 500 dash in 1:18.41 and freshman Kristen Crawford took 17th in the shot put in 43-3.
On the men's side at the Penn State National Invitational, the Spiders had five runners compete in the 1,000. Junior Jonathan Molz led the way for the Spiders in 10th place with a time of 2:31.96, followed by sophomore Garrett Graham in 12th (2:36.76), sophomore Derek Jensen in 15th (2:34.11), sophomore Jeff Strojny in 19th (2:36.93) and sophomore Sean Welsh in 20th (2:38.00).
George Mason Patriot Games
Sophomore Jasmine Major finished second in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.85 and finished seventh in the preliminaries of the 60 dash in 7.90. The top six qualified for the finals and Major was just one hundredth of a second off as the sixth-place finisher in the prelims finished at 7.89. Major also took eighth in the long jump with a leap of 17-6 1/4 and finished 13th in the 200 in 26.63 seconds.
Freshman Monique Hawkins finished 15th in the 200 (26.80) and 21st in the 60 dash in 8.11. Freshman Megan Ney finished third in the high jump, clearing 5-3 and took 15th in the long jump at 16-5 1/4.
Freshman Jasmine Cottle took second in the 400 in 59.95 seconds, while freshman Stephanie Lapp was 12th in the weight throw (33-9 1/4) and sophomore Emily Nagle was 12th in the 1,000 (3:12.47).
Freshman Kerry Kelly placed 14th in the preliminaries of the 60 hurdles in 9.61 seconds and took 27th in the 400 in 1:03.50. Freshman JoAnna Ubiwa was 20th in the 200 (27.18) and 30th in the 60 dash (8.48). Junior Shelby Faircloth took 24th in the 3,000 (11:02.15) and Richmond's 4x400 relay team finished 10th in 4:06.38.
On the men's side at the Patriot Games, sophomore Chris Kondorossy took second in the shot put with a heave of 42-2 and placed fifth in the weight throw at 35-10 1/2. Sophomore Greg Hoffman took 10th in the 1,000 in 2:36.35 and junior Hunter Willis finished 10th in the 3,000 in 8:51.90.
Freshman Matt Llano placed 11th in the 800 (2:05.05) and took 15th in the mile run (4:29.50). Junior Travis Warren finished 13th in the 200 dash (24.16) and 14th in the 60 dash (7.38). Sophomore Sean McKinney finished 13th in the 3,000 in 8:56.59.
