RICHMOND HEAD COACH Chris Mooney
On The Game
"We played a heck of a game. I thought we competed. We were very good, good enough to win the game. Everything that we're asking our guys to do, they are doing. It just shows you how hard it is to win in college basketball. It seems right now that we have to be fairly perfect to win. I'm really proud and pleased of the effort our guys gave; the future looks bright."
On What Encourages Him Right Now
"So many of the minutes and positive things are being done by freshmen. That's a difficult spot for any team. I'm encouraged by that and by the competitiveness that we are developing as a program, and fire and intensity that I hope will become a staple."
On Gaston Moliva's Return
"He's tremendous. He's the best defensive player I've ever coached. He's certainly a physical specimen. He shot 4-of-4 today. Of course, he was a little winded today at times, but he is such a different presence for us. He makes us look so different, so we are certainly glad to have him back. I think he can get better and better and he was terrific today. I'm sure he's going to have a lot of good games in front of him."
On Stout And His Play In The Last Five Minutes
"The nature of our offense is that we try to pass the ball and look for the best opportunity, and at times, get it to your best player. That's definitely an advantage for Fordham. I mean, Stout, he really took over the game, he made a couple threes. It's a little bit different with us, we are out there still trying to figure things out, overcome mistakes and trying to figure out college basketball. They go to a guy who's a 2,000-point scorer. So there certainly is an advantage to experience and having good, experienced players."
RICHMOND SENIOR Gaston Moliva
On The Game
"I haven't had a chance to do much running in the last few weeks so it was hard the first day back. I was trying to bring more energy and more physicality, especially on the defensive end."
On How His Left Foot Feels
"I'm not quite there. It really hurt at times, but I tried not to think about it. I'm not fully back. It will probably take another week. I can definitely still be a leader and bring more energy and my rebounding skills."
On Starting The Season Halfway Through
"It's hard, but you have to be positive. I was trying to learn just by watching them. It was kind of good for me because I've never been injured before so I've been watching and learning, so it's been a good experience."
FORDHAM HEAD COACH DERECK WHITTENBURG
On The Game
"What a basketball game. He's got a young team, but he's doing an outstanding job and their style of play makes you work and they were doing a heck of a job in the second half executing everything. And then that six or seven-minute stretch there, we really showed some character and toughened up and made some key plays for us to take the lead. And then Marcus Stout stepped up and made some big plays, but I have to credit their team. We hadn't played well in the last two or three weeks, and although their record doesn't show that they're a good basketball team, they have been in a lot of games. They gave Virginia Tech a scare down there and Wake Forest, as well. I knew it was going to be a tough basketball game, but our kids - I tip my hats off to them - they showed some toughness and made plays when it counted."
On Having A Veteran (Stout) To Look To In The Last Five Minutes
"He (Stout) was tremendous. He was aggressive. And to be honest with you, he had some shots in the first half that he usually makes, and he didn't make them, so I just told him to stay with it and that he needs to just take them. But yes, he really stepped up for us. And the rest of our guys, collectively, made some key defensive plays in there and they did some nice things in the second half and did some nice execution. We hung in there and made some plays, stepped up the defense and really pulled out a gutsy game in the end."
