AMHERST, Va. - Sophomore Robert Lindstrom is at 1-under-par through two rounds, leading the Richmond men's golf team into second place out of 11 teams after two rounds Monday at the Frank Landry Invitational at Poplar Grove Golf Club.
The Spiders will go for their third tournament title in third-year head coach Adam Decker's tenure in the final round on Monday on the par-72, 7,059-yard course.
"We played well today, we really put it together in the morning round," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said. "We just have to go out there tomorrow and put together another solid round."
The Spiders shot their first under-par round of the season in Monday's morning round, carding a 3-under 285. Richmond had the lead after the first round and shot another sold round of 5-over 293 in the afternoon to finish the day at 578. Radford shot a 287 in the second round after a 290 in the first round to take the lead by one (577) heading into the final round.
South Carolina Upstate is in third at 585, VCU is in fourth (587) and James Madison is in fifth (597) in the 11-team field.
Lindstrom, who was a two-time medalist as a freshman at Birmingham-Southern last year, shot an even-par 72 in the first round and a 1-under 71 in the second round, which has him at 1-under 143. He is three strokes out of third place and four strokes out of first.
"Robert is a great addition to the team, he's been very strong in practice and he really carried that over in both rounds today," Decker said.
Richmond junior Tim Courtney is tied for 9th at 1-over-par 145. Courtney fired what was tied for the low round of the day, a 3-under 69 in the morning. He shot a 76 in the afternoon, but is just two strokes out of the top-5.
Richmond senior Jordan Utley is tied for 13th at 2-over 146. Utley shot a 2-under 70 in the first round and a 76 in the second round.
