MIDLOTHIAN, Va. - Senior Alex Latimer shot a 77 for the second-straight day to finish in a tie for 10th as the Richmond women's golf team finished seventh at the Spider Fall Invitational on Tuesday at Independence Golf Club.
The Spiders shot a 313 on, posting three rounds of 77 or better. Richmond finished the tournament at 630, one stroke out of a fifth-place tie between William & Mary and Methodist.
"The team played much better today," Richmond head coach Leighann Albaugh said. "We didn't quite catch William & Mary, but we definitely made up some ground. It was not enough to make a huge move, but it was a big ego boast for the girls to come back and play well."
Latimer has now finished in the top-10 in two tournaments this fall and has shot a 77 or better in four of her seven rounds this season.
"It was great to see Alex have a strong showing at the final home tournament of her senior year," Albaugh said. "She's really coming into her own."
Richmond freshman Jillian Fraccola shot a 4-over-par 76, her lowest round of the fall, to tie for 29th with a 159. Sophomore Lauren Folgosa also shot a 76 on Tuesday to finish at 160 in 33rd place.
"Those were two great scores for Lauren and Jillian," Albaugh said. "They got a little revenge on the golf course today."
Sophomore Anne Sprick and freshman Christina Gray tied for 38th at 163. Sprick shot an 84 in the second round after a 79 on Monday, while Gray carded an 85 on Tuesday after a 78 in the first round.
Richmond junior Rosario Germino tied for 29th at 159 playing as an individual, shooting an 80 on Tuesday after a 79 on Monday. Freshman Sarah Gehrke tied for 45th at 165 (82-83).
Maryland won the team title with a 603 (301-302) and Columbia took second at 611 (308-303). Marshall was third at 623 and Longwood was fourth at 624, followed by William & Mary and Methodist in a tie for fifth at 629 and Richmond in seventh.
"The competition was fantastic, it's really great to have strong competition out here for our home tournament," Albaugh said. "The event was a success, the weather was great, the course was great."
Richmond will conclude the fall season Oct. 29-30 at the Ross Resorts Invitational at Pine Needles Golf Club.
