PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Looking to bounce back from Friday's loss at Temple, the University of Richmond women's basketball team will continue its road trip with a 4:00 p.m. meeting with Duquesne on Sunday at the A.J. Palumbo Center. The Spiders will look to earn their eighth-straight win over the Dukes on Sunday.
SCOUTING THE SPIDERS: Richmond (10-13, 4-4 in A-10) just suffered its second-straight loss and first road loss in four games at Temple on Friday afternoon. After getting off to a slow start, Richmond dropped a 12-point decision (64-52) to the Owls at the Liacouras Center. Danielle Bell and Christina Campion paced the Spiders with 12 points and 11 points, respectively. Campion and Johanna McKnight also finished with six boards and Sarah Williams chipped in nine points for the Spiders.
Campion (10.2 ppg) currently leads the team in scoring as the lone Spider averaging double-digits, while Williams (8.1 ppg), Katie Holzer (8.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg) and Nikita Thomas (5.9 rpg) leads the team on the boards after pulling double-digit rebounds in five different games.
SCOUTING THE DUKES: Duquesne (7-15, 2-7 in A-10) is on a six-game losing streak, the second time this season the Dukes have lost five-straight games. Duquesne is coming off a 76-46 loss at No. 8/9 George Washington on Thursday when Loui Hall paced the team with 17 points. Amanda Peck came off the bench to chip in eight points and nine boards on the night.
Hall leads the Dukes in scoring and on the boards with 14.7 ppg and 6.7 rpg, while Carmen Bruce (11.9 ppg) and Keri Pryor (10.3 ppg) round out the Dukes' balanced attack, averaging 60.3 ppg. The Dukes return four starters from last year's squad that finished with a 13-17 overall mark (same as the Spiders), finishing 10th in the A-10.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES: This will be the 10th meeting between the teams. Richmond owns an 8-1 advantage in the all-time series, with Richmond claiming the first win, as well as the last seven wins in the series. The Spiders are currently (3-1) on Duquesne's home territory and Campion leads all Spiders against the Dukes, averaging 8.5 ppg and 12.5 rpg in four meetings.
THE LAST MEETING: The teams last met on Jan. 8, 2006 when the Spiders defeated Duquesne by nineteen points (72-53) at the Robins Center. Senior guard Saona Chapman led the Spiders as she recorded her eighth double-digit performance of the season, adding 14 points, while junior forward Kelly Roche scored 13 points after hitting a perfect 3-3 from the 3-point line, and sophomore forward Mirna Mazic added 10 points.
Jocelyn Chandler, the only Duke in double-digits, led Duquesne and all scorers with 15 points, followed by Loui Hall, who was just one point shy of a double-double as she added nine points and 12 rebounds. Richmond finished with a 50% effort from the field and 3-point line, while the Dukes were only able to convert 37.3% of their shots and 18.2 from behind the arch.
