Richmond Head Coach Chris Mooney
On The Game
"It's a great to win, it's great to have a positive result. I was really proud of my guys to bounce back after giving up the lead."
More On The Win
"It's great, these guys are happy. We've had a lot of difficult times and difficult games both here and on the road. The guys are excited."
On The Pace
"I think we controlled the game, the entire game. Even when they were going on a run, we had some turnovers, missed some make-able shots and that let them come back and take the lead. Of course Brian Morris made a huge 3-point shot and Drew (Crank) made two foul shots."
On Richmond's Poise Offensively
"I think when you are going to play a team like this who is going to up-tempo the game and cause turnovers, the better basketball player you are and the better decisions you can make and the more skillful you are, you can really combat that. We got up 12 in the second half and I think we were doing that just about the whole game. Making them chase us. We had fourteen turnovers, which is a pretty good number against this team."
More On Richmond's Offensive Poise
Offense ball-faking, presence, calmness, I think we only had three really bad turnovers that stand out judging our progress from VMI to this game, especially guards who have the ball so much, it's tremendous. Because VMI controlled that game, here we are a couple months later and I think we controlled this game."
On Richmond's Defense Limiting Duquesne
"They only had four fast-break points and they have been scoring 100 and we held them to 66. It was our game from the start, and even when we stopped scoring in the second half, it wasn't like they scored too easily or too quickly to put too much pressure on us."
More On Richmond's Defense
"Our defense was good, but we certainly need to get better at playing defense without fouling. We got out-shot 33-6 at the foul line, so we have to get better at that. They only had four fast-break points we held a team that had been averaging over a 100 per game. The key to that was taking care of the basketball and rebounding."
On Richmond's Rebounding
"Rebounding is something we've really worked very hard to improve. It's going to be a struggle for us. To win the rebounding battle is great, but it's going to be a struggle because of our size and not having Gaston (Moliva). If we can just close the gap a little bit, it helps."
More On Richmond's Rebounding
"We need to cut the gap rebounding. I think our defense is pretty good and rebounding well will show how good the defense is."
On Brian Morris' 3-Pointer In The Last Minute
"We were struggling because we were almost giving them too much credit. Then he steps in there and bangs a big one."
On Richmond's Freshmen Growing Up
"There's such a ton of experience that they've already had. I hope they don't feel like freshmen - they probably do a little bit physically - but I hope they don't feel like freshmen in terms of their contribution to the team and how important they are. I think they are five very good players who can help us for a long time."
Richmond Freshman Brian Morris
On Getting The Win
"It's a big improvement because at times we were playing better, we were up five with six minutes left, but it was a loss either way. It's good to see something go in the win column after working so hard."
On His 3-Pointer To Give The Spiders The Lead For Good
"That was the same zone we had seen down the stretch. We were just moving the ball and that opened things up. I noticed I was open as two guys went and attacked (Kevin) Hovde and the other one picked up (David) Gonzalvez, so I kind of knew I would be open, but then the guy ran at me and I just gave a head fake to give me a little bit of separation. It felt good right away."
On His Deflection With 3.1 Seconds Left
"I noticed he was heading toward half court and I was right behind him. I was able to get my hand on the ball and then I tried to throw it to run some time off. Fortunately I got a piece of it and they didn't really have time to run a play."
On Richmond's Late-Game Scoring Drought
"We had to realize what the right shot was at the right time. We were passing it around and just looking for the right shot, but we might have been giving up some good shots. As we get older we won't see that problem."
On Richmond's Defense And Rebounding
"We adjusted better to what they were doing, and we out-rebounded them. That was a big thing we weren't giving up second chance points."
On Richmond's Offense
"The big part of it was we were all passing up open shots knowing that we would get the same thing with 10 seconds and it would probably be an even more wide-open shot for the next guy. We all played together we realized the shots would come. It was a good way to play basketball, sharing the ball, playing as a team. It worked for us tonight."
On The Week Off
"I think it was big. Personally I can say, my legs were in some trouble. It was good in the fact that we got to rest, watch tape and realize the mistakes we were making. Usually you just go practice, practice game; practice, practice game. We don't get as much individual time, I think it really paid off."
Richmond Freshman Dan Geriot
On Getting The Win
"It feels good to get the weight off of our shoulders. Practice has been good the past couple of days. The whole team was ready to go tonight."
Richmond Junior Drew Crank
On The Win
"It's great to pull out the win in the end. We went through a stretch where we didn't score, but we were finally able to finish a game strong."
Richmond Red-Shirt Freshman Ryan Butler
On The Win
"It's good to get back on the winning track, now we need to get a couple of more so we can get to the Atlantic 10 Tournament. That's our goal, to play in the postseason."
Richmond Freshman Kevin Hovde
On Richmond's Defense And Rebounding
"This was a great team win, we did a great job defensively. We held them to 66 points, that's a great effort. Most of that was because of our rebounding. We were boxing out and getting after it on the boards."
Duquesne Head Coach Ron Everhart
On The Pace Of The Game
"We really thought we could beat them at their own game. We went with our chemistry guys on the floor in the second half, but we didn't come away the stops or big buckets at the end."
On Richmond Handling Duquesne's Pressure
"They had good spacing and our traps had to come from so far away that they were seeing them and making the next pass right away. We certainly had opportunities to win, but we missed some free throws and didn't guard well enough in the first half."
