Richmond Head Coach Chris Mooney
On Xavier
"I just told the team, they're the standard for our league, they're the bar. It's good for our guys to see it and see it on the road. How strong their guys are, how committed they are to their defense, to their offense, to their program. They are a very, very good, deep and talented team. They overwhelmed us a little bit with their strength. This is the standard in the league and this is what we need to work toward."
More On Xavier
"Their guys are good, they are such a veteran team, they don't force anything, they defend solidly. They're not the flashiest team in the world, I think that's what's going to give them a chance. I think they're probably a NCAA Tournament team and having seen them first-hand here I can just see how good they are."
On Richmond's Freshmen Learning From Xavier
"These guys need to see what a really good team, a really good program is. They need to see that and almost like taste it and be around it. The demands we put on them and the things that we ask of them is because we need to catch a team like Xavier. The only way to do that is to see it an identify it and make sure we work hard towards it."
On The First Half
"The first half I thought we played well, we were right there. If a couple of things go differently and we make some more foul shots, maybe you're down five or six at the half."
More On The First Half
"I thought in the first half we were good. It was maybe 16-14 at one point, we were playing well, we got a couple lay-ups, we're taking care of the ball and doing good things. We didn't shoot the ball great at all, but did a some good things. Then in the second half this is the type of team that will wear us down and I think they did."
On Richmond's Foul Shooting
"We shot 12-for-25 from the line, that's horrendous. When you're on the road you are going to need to make foul shots, no matter how loud it is, you need to step up there and make foul shots and boy we missed them, and missed them, and missed them. We need to improve in that area."
Richmond Freshman Kevin Hovde
On Xavier
"This is definitely the bar of the Atlantic 10. We were just talking about it in the locker room. We know that every workout in the off-season, every run, every lift you got to be thinking about getting to this level, because this is the level that is going to win the Atlantic 10."
On His Hustle Play
"That's basically what I was trying to do. (Xavier is) obviously bigger and more physical than us. I just try to do whatever I can go in there and crash the boards for offensive rebounds, get every rebound I can and take a charge if I can."
On Richmond Becoming More Comfortable In The Offense
"From the beginning of the year until now is a world of difference. Coming into this environment, a real tough environment to play in, and the way we stuck to what we were trying to do, was really good. But in the end, they were more committed to what they do and that's the difference between the two teams right now."
On Richmond's Play
"I thought we played well, we played hard. We got killed on rebounding again which really hurt us. It was a 20-point game but I think it was a lot closer than that."
On The Team Staying Together
"We're committed to what we're trying to do and we'll get it together in practice on Monday, work on things that we did wrong and just keep getting better and better everyday."
Xavier Head Coach Sean Miller
On The Game
"Tonight was a very difficult game to play in, to watch, and to coach."
On Xavier Getting To The Free Throw Line
"One common denominator for us from game to the next is we get lots of our points from the free throw line. When you do that over the course of the season, that's a plus."
On Richmond
"They are difficult to play against for obvious reasons. Their style of play and their defense. That match-up zone is tough to play against."
On Xavier's Game Plan
"We really wanted to dribble penetrate and throw the ball into the post. They switch, which puts their four and five man sometimes on a guard, so we wanted our guards to recognize that. Also we were able to get guys to post up guys a lot smaller than them. We did that and then there was an onslaught of fouls, just an onslaught."
Xavier's Brandon Cole
On Xavier's Free Throw Shooting
"They made a lot of hard fouls early on and then throughout the game. They were
very physical. We got to the free throw line and knocked a lot of them down. We're definitely a pretty good free throw shooting team."
On Attacking The Basket
"We saw how much [the free throws] were falling, so we attacked the rim. We saw we could get many points from the foul line and that's what we did."
Xavier's Derrick Brown
On His Rebounding
"Getting four rebounds a game is not enough. Coach wanted me to get some more defensive
rebounds."
