Richmond Head Coach Chris Mooney
On The 16-6 Start
"We did start well, we were able to run our offense. It did seem like we were able to get the shots that we wanted to get, whether inside or on the perimeter. We seemed to be doing a good job, guys shooting shots who can make them in the right positions."
On Leemire Goldwire, Who Made 7-of-10 3-Pointers
"He's a very good player. They shot so poorly their last game against Xavier, so I knew one of those guys was going to shoot well tonight. From our end we didn't do anything that made it too difficult. We would have liked to do more on him and make it harder for him to score."
On What Turned The Game
"They started pressuring us full-court, they were more aggressive on both offense and defense. At the start we seemed to be taking the game to them, then they took it us."
On The Freshman
"I feel bad to keep blaming so many mistakes on the youth, but the missed lay-ups going in, and out a lot of things go back to the youth. I'm confident they're going to be good in the future, but we're just asking so much from them right now."
On Getting Beaten On The Boards
"Even when they weren't scoring, they were killing us on the glass. They finished with 17 offensive rebounds. UMass killed on the glass and they only had eight offensive rebounds. We gave up too many offensive rebounds, we display a lack of aggression there, on the backboards. It's not just the interior guys, it's the guys on the perimeter who can come in and get rebounds that are long. Charlotte takes a lot of long shots and we need to be able to come in their and get some of those rebounds because it puts a little too much pressure on us when we don't."
On The Players Getting Frustrated
"It seems if we run into a bad turnover or a call we disagree with, then it seems that we get a little bit out of sync. It seems to deflate us more than it should. I think those things happen to us, and we need to stay on top of our guys so it doesn't happen to us as much. It really seems like a bad possession or a questionable call, or something that goes against us, and we have a hard time recovering from it for a couple of minutes. And that's disappointing. It's something that needs to be addressed and something we need to work on."
On The Players Pressing
"I think they were, it certainly shows up in the shot selection. We probably had about five possessions there that we didn't run our offense, again guys trying to make a big play, or do something when the best thing we can do is what we practice, and what we're good at. They had so much trouble guarding us the first 10 or 15 minutes of the game. Again, I think that's a lot of the youth and we just have to keep trying to work through it."
Richmond Freshman Brian Morris
On Richmond's Good Start
"I felt we really took control of the game from the start, really I think if we would have handled the rebounding a little bit better we would have had a bigger lead because they were struggling to make shots. For a while there they just kept getting offensive rebounds, which is something that we need to stop letting happen so much. I felt that at that point we were in control, then we kind of lost it."
On Getting Beaten On The Boards
"They got so many off rebounds, they were able to get second chance points. It wasn't like it was one or two at a time, there were times it was four or five."
On What The Spiders Need To Do To Finish The Season Strong
"To finish the season out we just need to play a full 40 minutes of basketball and get some wins. I think everybody sees signs for the future, but right now when we are in control of the games like these, we need to win them regardless if we're freshmen or not."
On Improvement
"Up to this point we've gotten a lot better on defense, we're not giving up so many easy shots. Our offense is a lot smoother, but at the same time we just need to finish games out."
On Fighting For A Spot In The Atlantic 10 Tournament
"We're talking about it everyday, that's our goal for the season. We want to be able to win these games and get to the Atlantic 10 Tournament and that's our goal. I don't want to go home for spring break. I want to be in Atlantic City and that's what we've been talking about."
