HARRISONBURG, Va. - The University of Richmond women's tennis team earned its third-straight win of the season with a 6-1 triumph over James Madison on Wednesday afternoon.
Beatrice Grasu and Robin Carter paired up for an 8-4 win at first doubles, while Pamela Duran and Ashlee Vosters overpowered the no. 2 spot with an 8-1 win, notching their eighth-straight win at second doubles. The Jessica Hubbard/Jelena Zivanovic duo rounded out doubles action recording a win at the no. 3 spot to secure the Spider sweep and the doubles point.
In singles action, the Spiders swept the No. 1-5 spots to take the 6-1 win over the Dukes. Carter, Grasu, Vosters and Hubbard earned straight-set wins at first, second, third and fifth singles, while teammate Xenia Schneider followed with a win at no. 4.
"I thought our team played well under the windy conditions," stated Richmond head coach Mark Wesselink. "We had to be very patient. I'm happy with the way we worked the points. We showed good discipline out there today."
The Spiders (3-6, 1-1 in A-10) will return to the court on March 27 as they host East Carolina at 2:00 p.m. in the first of three-straight home matches. Richmond's match with #12 William & Mary originally scheduled for this Saturday has been postponed.
