UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Freshman Heather Roush finished second in the discus with a school record and personal best throw of 143-feet-8 on Saturday at the UNC-Wilmington Invitational.Roush broke the six-year old school record of Lauren Trout, who threw the discus 137-11 in 2001.
"It's exciting to see Heather throw her primary event and start her collegiate outdoor career with a school record," Richmond head women's coach Lori Taylor said. "She has been working hard all year and we're happy to see her efforts be rewarded this early. She has higher expectations, but we certainly feel this is a good starting point for her."
Roush also placed sixth in the javelin with a toss of 109-feet-1.
Freshman Kristen Crawford finished third in the shot put with a toss of 45-7 1/4, which is an outdoor personal best mark. Crawford also took 13th in the discus with a throw of 88-6.
"Kristen continues to throw big in the shot put," Taylor said. "With continued effort, that consistency will lead to bigger things in the event for her."
Senior Beth Crocus finished second in the hammer throw with a heave of 168-7. She also finished third in the javelin with a toss of 127-11.
Sophomore Stephanie Lapp placed 10th in the hammer throw with a toss of 104-2 and on the men's side, junior Neil Slotterback placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 151-8.
