UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond women's soccer team will host eight opponents, play at two in-season tournaments and face three first-time opponents in the 2007 season as announced today by head coach Peter Albright.
"We are really excited about this schedule," stated Albright. "With 20 full matches and several new opponents, it promises to be an exciting fall."
Richmond will play Georgetown, Hofstra and VMI for the first time ever in the upcoming season.
The Spiders kick off their season on August 31 at the American University Invitational, followed by a trip to the JMU/Comfort Inn Invitational which they are participating in for the fifth time in six years.
After two weekends of tournament action, the Spiders will open their home slate with UMBC and VMI in back-to-back games on Sept. 15 and 16. Following a trip cross-town to rival VCU and a home match with Loyola, the Spiders will then open Atlantic 10 competition at Fordham on Sept. 28.
Richmond will face 11 conference opponents, hosting a string of three, including La Salle, St. Bonaventure and Duquesne, following their trip to New York. The Spiders will then hit the road for their next three A-10 contests playing at Saint Louis, the 2006 A-10 Champions and NCAA participants, Charlotte and George Washington before making a trip to non-conference opponent Longwood.
The Spiders will wrap up their home slate with Saint Joseph's and Temple before heading north to conclude their regular season with Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
"We have nine games in Richmond, nine away and two neutral," said Albright. "I think that this schedule will prepare us well for a run at the A-10 Championship, which is always our goal."
