Women's Tennis Defeats #3 Charlotte To Advance To Championship Match Of A-10 Tournament

MONROEVILLE, Pa. - Seeking its fourth consecutive A-10 title and fifth in the last six years, the Richmond women's tennis team topped #3 Charlotte Saturday afternoon.
The Spiders will continue their quest for another title tomorrow as they compete against #1 Temple in the Championship match at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pa.
Sophomores Pamela Duran and Ashlee Vosters secured the doubles point with an 8-4 victory at the second flight and Beatrice Grasu and Xenia Schneider won in straight sets at Nos. 3 and 5 singles as second-seeded Richmond earned a 4-1 win over No. 3 Charlotte. Senior Robin Carter also came through with a win at second singles to help lift the Spiders to victory.
The Spiders (8-7) earned their eighth win in the last nine matches with the win over the 49ers on Saturday and will look to defend their title on Sunday morning against the Owls. The Spiders fell to Temple by a 4-3 margin on Feb. 3.
"We know Temple is a very strong team. Our team is focused and looking forward to the challenge," said Richmond head coach and four-time A-10 Coach of the Year Mark Wesselink.
"It should be a great match."
