HOT SPRINGS, Va. - Freshman Victoria Kidder earned All-CAA Championship honors tying for fourth as the Richmond women's golf team took fourth at the 2007 CAA Championship at the Homestead's Old Course.
Richmond has now finished in the top-4 in all five CAA Women's Championships.
"The girls really played well, I'm proud of them," Richmond head coach Leighann Rastede Albaugh said. "They didn't give up, the golf course was playing tough, it was very tricky, especially on the greens. They didn't let it bother them, they just kept trying to read the games and
The Spiders shot their lowest round of the tournament with a 313, but Xavier shot a 309 to break a tie for third with Richmond. UNC-Wilmington won the tournament, while Georgia State finished second and Xavier took third.
"Going into this tournament we knew we could compete for the top-3 spots, but the competition keeps getting better and better in the CAA, we knew Xavier had gotten a lot better," Rastede Albaugh said.
Kidder shot a 4-over-par 76 on Sunday to finish the tournament at 14-over 230, which put her tied for fourth, four strokes out of second place. Kidder had shot a pair of 77s in the first two rounds as she earned All-CAA Championship Team honors.
"I played really well, the key was I didn't have any three putts today because the greens were very fast all weekend," Kidder said. "This was a great team effort, we didn't quite. We played our hearts out."
Senior Ashley Lambert, playing in the last tournament of her collegiate career, tied for sixth, posting her second top-7 finish at the CAA Tournament in the last three years. Lambert shot a 79 on Sunday, following rounds of 77 and 76 to finish at 232. Lambert was named to the CAA's All-Conference Team prior to the tournament, her second All-CAA selection.
"This was a nice way to finish my career," Lambert said. "I'm proud of the team, this was a good bunch of teammates."
"We're going to miss Ashley," Rastede Albaugh said. "We're sad to see her career come to a close."
Freshman Lauren Folgosa, who had the lead in the clubhouse after the first round, tied for 14th with a 237. She followed up her opening round 75 with an 80 Saturday and an 82 Sunday.
Sophomore Rosario Germino shot a 4-over 76 on Sunday to finish 24th with a 244. Freshman Anne Sprick tied for 35th with a 250 (85-82-83).
"We took home some hardware and awards, we peaked at the right time," Rastede Albaugh said. "We had been this Jekyll and Hyde thing, but we conquered that this weekend, we played a consistent tournament."
