WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Sophomore Anne Sprick tied for the second lowest round in school history in leading the Richmond women's golf team to second place after one round of the Colonial Intercollegiate on Monday.
The second and final round of the Colonial Intercollegiate will be played Tuesday morning.
Sprick shot a 1-under-par 71 on the 6,279-yard Jamestown Course at Williamsburg National Golf Club. She is in fourth place, two strokes off the lead. Sophomore Lauren Folgosa is in a tie for fifth place at 1-over 73.
"Anne and Lauren both went low, they had fabulous rounds today," Richmond coach Leighann Albaugh said. "We had some great practices this week, we knew what we had to work on and that's what is paying off for the two of them."
The Spiders are in second place with a 304, nine shots off the leader Florida Atlantic and one shot ahead of host William & Mary.
"We played much better today," Albaugh said. "It's all about trust, a collaborative trust. It's trusting your teammates to help you out and not to feel like your carrying everybody. We talked about that a lot after last weekend."
Richmond junior Rosario Germino is in a tie for 14th at 5-over 77. Freshman Jillian Fraccola is tied for 44th with an 83 and sophomore Victoria Kidder is tied for 58th with a 90.
"They just have to go out and just play," Albaugh said. "Just hit it and chase it."
