WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Sophomore Anne Sprick finished third and the Richmond women's golf team finished in a tie for fourth at the Colonial Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary at Williamsburg National Golf Club.
The Spiders shot a 315 in Tuesday's final round after shooting a 304 in the first round on Monday. Richmond tied with Boston College at 619.
"Our confidence level was so much higher this weekend as oppose to last weekend," Richmond head coach Leighann Albaugh said. "Our short game was better, we got up and down better this weekend. Our ball striking is the best it's been in long time. We have to keep that going, and also continue to work on some trouble lies, hitting out of rough on a side hill and lot of shots around the greens. We were getting up and down, but we still have room to improve."
Sprick shot a 76 on Tuesday after carding a 1-under-par 71 on Monday as she finished the tournament at 147, just two shots off the medalist. Sprick's two rounds in the Colonial Intercollegiate were the two lowest of her collegiate career.
"Anne played very well again today," Albaugh said. "She really came into her own."
Richmond senior Alex Latimer, playing as an individual, tied for fourth with rounds of 76 and 74 to finish at 6-over 150. Those Latimer's two best rounds of her career.
"Alex played great and will have the opportunity to get in the lineup," Albaugh said. "We are in a better place, farther along than we were last week. This is a time of season you get a feel for everybody and a feel for what everybody can do in tourney play."
Sophomore Lauren Folgosa tied for 11th at 8-over 152 after rounds of 1-over 73 and 79. Junior Rosario Germino tied for 20th at 155 (77-78) and freshman Jillian Fraccola tied for 45th at 165 (83-82). Sophomore Victoria Kidder finished 56th at 173.
"We are trying to figure out where everyone fits into the whole mold," Albaugh said. "Some kids have come back as much stronger players then they left last spring. That's great for us. The roles have changed with Ashley (Lambert) not here. Everyone is trying to figure out where they fit."
The Spiders return to action at the Kentucky Wildcat Invitational Sept. 29-30.
"Obviously a lot of things we did during practice this week really worked," Albaugh said. "We will continue to have practices along those lines, focused on the areas that we've been working on such, as our short game."
