University of Richmond, Va. -
Charlotte's (10-3-1) Hailey Beam scored twice to push the 49ers past the Spiders (9-5-1), 3-2 Friday night at First Market Stadium. The loss is Richmond's first at home.
The 49ers struck first at the 30th minute, when Sam Hueker scored on a deflection from Nikki Czaplicki. Charlotte scored five minutes later, when Hailey Beam headed a ball past Spiders keeper Andrea Young.
"It was a great college game," said head coach Peter Albright. "Charlotte was very good. We were lacking a little confidence in the first half."
Richmond responded with a goal of its own in the 40th minute when junior Nora Mann scored off a corner kick, assisted by both freshman Emily Dale and junior Julia Bizer.
The Spiders' equalizer came at the 47th minute when senior Sarah Hilt laced a penalty kick past 49ers keeper Lauren Brown. The goal moved Hilt's season total to five.
Beam scored the game-winner at the 55:08 mark off a direct kick.
"We found ourselves in the second half," said Albright. "They just had a couple of difference makers."
Richmond returns to action Sunday afternoon at First Market Stadium. Kick-off is slated for noon.
Live coverage, including game tracker and free video streaming on SpiderTV, will be available for the game.
