University of Richmond, Va. -
Freshman Kat Russell scored the game's only goal late in the second half, on an assist from senior Sarah Hilt. The 9-2-1 Spiders are off to their best start in school history. The victory is Richmond's third in a row.
The lone goal of the game came at the 65th minute, when Hilt's shot on goal was deflected, then tapped back in by Russell. The goal moved Russell's total to two on the season, while Hilt added another assist, her sixth of the year.
Richmond dominated on defense, only allowing one shot in the second half. The Spiders outshot the Minutewomen 20-7.
"Sunday games are hard," head coach Peter Albright said. "We are playing with people down. We really had to defend well."
Richmond maintained its superiority at home, now a perfect 7-0.
The Spiders return to action next Friday when they travel to Duquesne. Kick-off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
