University of Richmond, Va. -
The women's soccer squad will travel this weekend to Duquesne and St. Bonaventure. Duquesne's match is set for Friday at 5 p.m., while St. Bonaventure match is set for Sunday at noon. The Spiders are currently tied for first in the A-10 with a 3-1 record.
The Spiders, coming off their best start in school history at 9-2-1, are ranked sixth in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic poll and eighth in the Soccer Buzz Magazine. The nine wins are the most for the women's soccer squad since 2004.
Richmond's last matchup with Duquesne resulted in a 2-1 loss. Junior Kristen Stalter tied the game 1-1 late in the second half, but a goal scored in the 87th minute by the Dukes sealed the victory.
"Both Duquesne and St. Bonaventure just put up big conference wins," head coach Peter Albright said. "The Dukes beating Fordham shows that they can beat anyone at their place."
Richmond's last match-up with St. Bonaventure resulted in a 4-0 win. Three different Spiders scored in the rout.
Seniors Jessie Wolfe and Sarah Hilt have provided veteran leadership thus far. Wolfe leads the team in goals with five, four of which came in a span of two games. Hilt leads the team with six assists, one shy from breaking into the record books for assists in a single season.
"We are in a good position in the standings, but it is so early in the conference season, that anything can happen," said Albright. "We are still in a pitched battle for a good position in the standings and a spot in the A-10 tourney, so we have to keep fighting hard."
The Spiders return to First Market Stadium Oct. 17th, where they face-off versus A-10 rival, Charlotte. Kick-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
