Spiders Romp Randolph-Macon; ESPN Showdown With Syracuse On Tuesday

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomore Kevin Anderson scored 17 points and redshirt freshman Josh Duinker had 13 points and nine rebounds as Richmond cruised to an 81-57 win over Randolph-Macon Saturday night before 5,415 fans in the Robins Center.
The Spiders led by as many as 28 in the second half as they improved to 4-0 in season openers under head coach Chris Mooney.
Anderson made two three-pointers, dished out three assists and even had a block in 32 minutes. Duinker connected on 7-of-8 free throws in his collegiate debut, pulling down eight of his nine rebounds on the defensive end.
Junior Ryan Butler made all four of his field goals, including three treys on his way to 12 points. Junior David Gonzalvez scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 20 minutes of action.
Senior Jarhon Giddings and sophomore Justin Harper each had seven points, while freshman Francis-Cedric Martel had sis points and six boards.
Six Spiders scored during a 17-2 spurt early in the first half. Richmond also went on a 14-6 run for a 45-28 halftime lead.
Randolph-Macon had made 13 three-pointers in an exhibition win over defending CAA Champion George Mason, but the Spiders held the Yellow Jackets to just four trifectas.
Richmond was 30 of 65 from the field (46.2%) while holding Randolph-Macon to 20-of-60 shooting.
The Spiders return to action on Tuesday night when they play Syracuse in the Carrier Dome at 6 p.m. in a game nationally televised on ESPN.
