Spiders Open Indoor Track & Field Season At CNU Holiday Classic

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Richmond indoor track & field opened the 2008-09 season Saturday by competing at the Christopher Newport Holiday Open in Newport News, Va. Megan Ney was fifth in the long jump and 10th in the high jump for the Spiders.
Ney posted a mark of 18-1.50 in the long jump that was good for fifth, while her mark in the high jump of 5-2.25 was good for 10th.
X'auntasia Johnson was 17th in the long jump with her mark of 16-4.50.
Nellie Henigin turned in a solid performance in the shot put, throwing to a mark of 40-9.75. Meaghan McGovern was 14th in the weight throw (42-8.00) and Heather Roush was 16th (40-11.00).
Among the highlights for the Spider women on the track were Jasmine Cottle finishing 23rd in the 400m (1:01.75) and Monique Scott taking 20th in the 800m. The women's 4x400m relay of Cottle, Kerry Kelly, JoAnna Ubiwa and Ney finished 11th in 4:15.77.
For the men, Devin Cassels was tied for fourth in the pole vault (12-5.50).
The Spiders are now off from competition until after the New Year.
