Men's Golf Takes 11th At Rain-Shortened Marshall Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - Sophomore Robert Lindstrom tied for 14th and the Richmond men's golf team finished in a tie for 11th out of 17 teams at the Marshall Invitational, played Saturday at Guyan Golf Club.
The tournament, originally scheduled for 54 holes, was postponed Friday due to rain. Thirty-six holes were played Saturday and Richmond finished at 19-over-par 587. The Spiders shot 9-over 293in the morning and 10-over 294 in the afternoon. Richmond finished just two strokes out of ninth place and four strokes out of eighth place.
Lindstrom shot a 1-under-par 70 in the morning round and a 1-over 72 in the afternoon on the par-71, 6,476-yard course to finish at even-par 142. This was Lindstrom's fourth top-15 finish in eight tournaments as a Spider.
"Robert really played well today, we just needed a few other guys to step up," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said. "We have one more tournament left before the Atlantic 10 Championship, so we have to start putting it all together."
Senior Billy Hanes tied for 50th at 7-over 149. Hanes shot a 2-over 73 in the first round and a 5-over 76 in the second round.
Senior Jordan Utley, junior Tim Courtney and junior Grant Rafield each tied for 67th at 151. Utley shot a 76 in the first round and 75 in the second round. Courtney rebounded from an opening round 80 to shoot an even-par 71 in the second round, while Rafield shot rounds of 74 and 77.
The Spiders return to action April 19-20 at the Rutherford Intercollegiate hosted by Penn State. That is the Spiders' last tune-up before the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship, May 2-4 at Orange County National in Winter Garden, Fla.
