HANAHAN, S.C. - Sophomore women's golfer Christina Gray continued her stellar play with a 1-over-par 73 in the second round of the College of Charleston's Cougar Classic played Monday at Yeamans Hall.
Playing in the toughest field of teams the Spiders will face in the 2008-09 season, Richmond is in 21st place heading into Tuesday's final round, one shot behind 20th-place UNC-Greensboro.
"We didn't play as well as yesterday, but this is a great experience for the girls," Richmond head coach Leighann Albaugh said. "Christina continues to play tremendous golf. She's really in a groove right now."
Gray, who is the reigning CAA Player of the Week after shooting a school-record 69 last week in the Towson Invitational, is 4-over through two rounds at the Cougar Classic. She shot a 3-over 75 in the opening round and carded a 73 Tuesday on the par-72, 6,159-yard course.
Junior Anne Sprick is tied for 89th at 14-over-par 158 after rounds of 77 and 81. Junior Lauren Folgosa is one shot behind Sprick in a tie for 93rd at 15-over 159 (77-82) and sophomore Jillian Fraccola is in 96th at 160 (81-79). Junior Victoria Kidder is in 112th at 176.
The third and final round of the Cougar Classic will be played Tuesday.
