University of Richmond, Va. -
The women's soccer squad will continue its home play with a match-up against the Penn University Quakers Friday night at 7 p.m. at First Market Stadium.
Richmond (5-1-1) is returning to action after a home victory against American University Tuesday night. Senior Sarah Hilt was credited with the goal after the ball was deflected off an Eagles defender in the 10th minute of play. The 5-1-1 record is the Spider's best since 1999.
Penn (2-2-0) is coming off a 3-1 victory over East Carolina last weekend.
"Penn is the defending Ivy League Champions, and they have 11 starters returning," head coach Peter Albright said. "We expect them to be as strong as anyone we play this fall."
The last time these two teams met, the Quakers recorded the victory in a 2-1 double overtime thriller. Penn's Tracy Bienenfeld scored the winning goal with 43 seconds left in the second overtime. Junior Nora Mann scored the lone goal for the Spiders.
"They are an attacking team who can score goals in bunches, so you always have to be vigilant," said Albright. "We are looking forward to a really strong opponent and a great test."
Richmond opens conference play on the road September 26th, where they will travel to Dayton. Kick-off is slated for 4:00 p.m.
