Men's Golf Takes 12th At Rutherford Intercollegiate

FARMINGTON, Pa. - The Richmond men's golf team shot a 16-over-par 304 in Tuesday's final round to finish Penn State's Rutherford Intercollegiate in 12th place at 59-over 923.
The Spiders finished the tournament five strokes out of 11th place and six shots out of 10th place.
"We didn't start the season the way we wanted to, but we know what we need to work on," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said. "We put together some decent rounds, but we need to improve and we need to be more consistent."
Senior Lawrence Lessing tied for 20th at 10-over 226 after carding a 3-over 75 on Tuesday. Lessing had opened the tournament with a 1-over 73 and shot a 78 in the second round.
"Lawrence put together a solid tournament, his hard work in the offseason really paid off," Decker said.
Junior Grant Rafield tied for 29th at 12-over-par 228. He shot a 3-over 75 in the first round, a 76 in the second round and a 77 in the final round. Senior Tim Courtney tied for 48th at 20-over 236 (77-81-78).
Junior Robert Lindstrom rebounded from shooting rounds of 81 and 83 to fire a 2-over 74 on Tuesday. He finished the tournament tied for 52nd at 22-over 238. Sophomore Sam Beach tied for 55th at 240 (78-81-81).
The Spiders return to action in the VCU Shootout, which begins Sept. 30 at Hermitage Country Club.
