University of Richmond, Va. -
The women's soccer squad will open conference play on the road at Dayton Friday afternoon. Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m.
The Spiders post a 6-1-1 record, equaling the best start in school history set by the 1999 squad. Senior midfielder Sarah Hilt leads the team with three goals and four assists. Freshman goal keeper Andrea Young boasts a .081 goals-against-average with 18 saves.
The Flyers are coming off a two game winning streak, defeating both Wright State and Ball State last week.
"Dayton is as strong as anyone in the A-10 Conference," head coach Peter Albright said. "They have played several Big 10 and ACC opponents, and have either won or played them very tough. I have great respect for Coach Tucker and what he has done with the Dayton program. As we start league play, I am looking at this away game as perhaps our biggest challenge."
The last time these two teams met was in 2006, when Dayton notched a 5-1 victory. The Flyers were led by forward Mandi Bäck, who recorded a hat trick.
"We are playing pretty well," said Albright. "The result against Penn was encouraging. All of our team goals and dreams involve playing well in the A-10 Conference, so we are excited to get it all started."
Richmond returns to First Market Stadium Sunday when the Xavier Musketeers come to town. Kick-off is slated for 7: 00 p.m.
