NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior Lauren Folgosa tied for ninth and the Richmond women's golf team placed ninth out of 19 teams at the rain-shortened Yale Women's Fall Intercollegiate played Sunday at The Course at Yale.
The first round was postponed Saturday due to flooding conditions on the course, and despite the fact some players had played as many as 17 holes, it was decided that the opening round would not be completed. The tournament became one 18-hole round played Sunday on the par-71, 6,105-yard course.
The Spiders shot a 316, which put them two strokes behind eighth-place Boston College and six shots behind fifth-place St. John's.
Folgosa shot a 38 on the front nine and a 37 on the back for a 4-over-par 75 to tie for ninth for her best-career finish.
Sophomore Christina Gray tied for 29th with a 7-over 78, shooting a 40 on the front nine and a 38 on the back. Junior Anne Sprick tied for 45th with an 80, while sophomore Jillian Fraccola and freshman Jackie Evans tied for 64th with 83s.
"The weather made for an interesting tournament," Richmond head coach Leighann Albaugh said. "Lauren played well considering, it's good to see her finish in the top-10. We just have to keep improving and we're looking forward to hosting the Spider Invitational in two weeks."
Richmond hosts the Spider Fall Invitational Oct. 13-14 at Independence Country Club in Midlothian, Va.
