University of Richmond, Va. -
The Richmond women's soccer team will travel to Charlotte, N.C. this weekend, where they will face-off against the College of Charleston and Davidson College in the Davidson College Tournament. The Spiders open tournament play with a 4:30 p.m. contest against the College of Charleston Cougars. The Spiders then continue action Sunday night versus the Davidson College Wildcats at 7:00 p.m.
Both teams are currently undefeated entering the game Friday. Richmond (3-0) has equaled its best start in school history. Similarly, the College of Charleston (4-0) is off to its best start in school history.
"The College of Charleston is off to a great start," said Richmond head coach Peter Albright. "We don't know a lot about them, except that they are a strong team in a tough league. They have been very successful in the Southern Conference with Davidson, UNCG, etc. and are known for playing a hard-nosed brand of soccer. I expect them to be extremely competitive."
Following the game Friday, the Spiders will face-off against a dangerous Davidson (2-0-1) squad.
"Davidson just defeated a very good Virginia Tech team. We know we have a quality opponent Sunday," said Albright.
Albright says his goal for this weekend is to keep things simple.
"My goal is to be physically and psychologically competitive for 90 minutes. If we play to our strengths and take care of the ball, we should have a good chance to win."
Following the Davidson College Tournament, the Spiders travel to UMBC where they will play Sept. 12th at 7:00 p.m.
