Spider Spotlight On Sam Hyland

Each week a player from the Richmond men's tennis team is featured as the Spider Spotlight Player of the Week. This week's Spider is sophomore Sam Hyland. Hyland took some time to answer a few questions about himself and his time at Richmond.
Why did you decide to play tennis at the University of Richmond?
I decided to play tennis for Richmond because the school was a great fit for me academically.
What is your major? Why?
I declared a business major this fall because the business classes I have been taking have interested me most so far.
Who is your role model?
My dad.
What is a hidden talent?
I am a fairly good surfer.
If you could take a road trip anywhere, where would you go?
Mexico
What has been your most memorable moment at Richmond thus far?
A-10's in Pittsburgh.
The best thing about being a Spider is?
Practicing and competing with our great tennis team. We have a funny group of guys.
How would your best friend describe you?
Sociable, relaxed, competitive.
If I had to sing karaoke, what tune would you belt out?
Journey, Don't Stop Believing.
What did you do over the summer?
Taught tennis, surfed, beached and porched it at my summer house.
What is your favorite part of the game? What do you love to do as a player?
I love competing, my favorite thing to do is win a close match.
Who is the best professor that you have had at UR (so far)?
Nuray Grove, Core class or Volker Grzimek, B-stats.
What is the biggest obstacle or challenge that you have had to overcome?
Playing in the heat, Virginia is much hotter than Maine.
What are your fears?
Heights.
What is your goal as a UR tennis player?
To play top three, as well as improve my record each year.
