UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
Why did you decide to play soccer at the University of Richmond?
a. I grew up playing soccer my entire life; probably started when I was around 5 years old. During travel soccer, I played for the Richmond Strikers for about 5-6 years. So I grew up and shared a lot of experiences with the girls on that team. It turned out that three of my teammates ended up committing to UR. However, I attended Santa Clara University during my freshman year. While being out there I learned many new things especially what mattered to me most: being around family and friends; and that's exactly what I have found here at the University of Richmond, one big family.
What is your major? Why?
a. I am a Psychology major and Education minor. My Mom is a 3rd grade teacher and throughout my whole I life I have grown up being involved in her life and her career. Whether it was her taking me to "Take you daughter to work day" or staying after to help grade papers for the teachers. I'm aspiring to be a 3rd grade teacher just like her and I am also possibly interested in International Education. I am majoring in psychology mainly because I just really enjoy the material and am eager to learn more about it. I have also thought of becoming a sports psychologist.
What has been your most memorable moment at Richmond thus far?
a. Pretty much every moment I spend with the team is memorable. But if I had to choose one I would say the night while we were getting frozen custard in St. Louis, our coach walked up to Radz and asked her to dance. Unwillingly, she accepted and by doing so made the rest of us fall to the ground in tears of laughter.
If I had to sing karaoke, what tune would you belt out?
a. Good Girls Go Bad with LeighAnne Baxter
What did you do over the summer?
a. Wakeboard, jet ski, and went to Yorktown Beach. I took a family vacation to Lake Gaston with my family and another close family of ours; the Dixons.
What is your favorite part of the game? What do you love to do as a player?
a. My favorite part of the game would have to be the physical contact aspect of it. The best part of being a defender is getting on the ground and laying out a girl on the other team.
Who are your heroes?
a. My family: I am blessed to have the family that I do. My big brother Chris is always there for me and is a typical big brother. He is extremely over-protective but I love it. Without him I wouldn't have been the cool "tomboy" while I was growing up as a kid. My sister gives me something totally different than my brother. No matter what it is, I know I can share anything with her and she will talk to me and make me feel better about it. Even though we have our differences, and I make fun of her all the time, she knows I love her and would be lost without her. Lastly my parents, again because they have supported me in my dreams and aspirations through soccer for my entire life.
b. My parents: because they always manage to make it to almost every game I have. They are right behind me in every decision I make and without their love and encouragement; I would not be where I am today. My Nana: she passed away a little over a year ago from Alzheimer's. She never let this hold her back. Whether it was 30 degrees and raining outside or 70 and sunny my Nana would be outside finding something to do. She never let the effects of this deadly disease damper her mood. To some people she may have seemed like a crabby, anti-social person, but to me and my family...that was the Nana we knew and loved.
Who is the best professor that you have had at UR (so far)?
a. Mavis Brown
What is the biggest obstacle or challenge that you have had to overcome?
a. Ever since playing collegiate sports I have had to overcome several injuries; and this year is no exception. I have had to deal with a chronic back problem and recently a recurring ankle sprain. However, it is easier to deal with these things when you have the treatment, help, and encouragement that you need.
What are your fears?
The dark, scary movies, spiders, touching the bottom floor of any area of water.
Who is your best friend on the team, and why?
a. I don't really have one single best friend on the team. However, I do feel especially close to all the other girls in my sophomore class. We make up a large majority of the team and each one of us has a great personality that allows us to share so many memorable moments together.
What is your goal as a UR soccer player?
a. Win the Atlantic10 tournament
What are some of your passions/interests?
a. I love animal movies! Free Willy, Milo and Otis, Black Beauty, Shiloh, and Homeward Bound are some of my favs. I just love animals in general, like my 2 yr. old golden retriever Bailey, and 15 yr. old Maltese Alec, and cat Charles.
