STORRS, Conn. -
A Danielle Bell pass to Katie Holzer for a lay-up with 2.5 seconds left lifted the Spiders (5-2) over the Pride (3-3) Sunday afternoon at Gampel Pavilion.
Richmond saw its 18-point halftime lead diminish when Hofstra went ahead 38-37 after two made free-throws from Shante Evans at the 3:07 mark. The Pride pulled in front 41-37 after a jumper Jess Fuller.
The Spiders recovered after Bell drilled in a clutch three at the top of the key to cut the deficit to 41-40 with 1:47 remaining.
Richmond capitalized on Hofstra's four missed free-throws when Bell dished to an open Holzer for the game-winner with 2.5 seconds left.
After having a commanding 29-11 lead at the break, the Spiders were outscored in the second frame by a 30-13 margin. Richmond won the battle on the glass, 46-40 and recorded another game-high steal performance.
Junior Brittani Shells led Spider scoring with 14 points. Bell chipped in with 12 points.
Shells was named to the WBCA Classic All-Tournament team for her team-high efforts this weekend.
Richmond travels to William & Mary Thursday. Tip is slated for 7:00 p.m.
