PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -
The women's basketball (19-7, 7-4) team plays Temple (17-8, 8-3) today at 2 p.m. Richmond looks for its first win over Temple since 2006.
Junior Nikita Thomas scored 10 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds en route to a 60-51 victory over Dayton Wednesday night. With the win, the Spiders improved to 19-7, its best start since 2004.
Temple is coming off a 77-73 victory over Charlotte Wednesday night. Shenita Landry led five Owls in double-figures with a career-high 21 points.
"Temple has a very nice balance of both inside and outside play," said head coach Michael Shafer. "They have the ability to put a lot of pressure on opposing guards and force turnovers, which lead to points."
Despite 18 points from sophomore Brittani Shells, the Spiders fell to the Owls, 70-62 in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament last March. Richmond's last win over Temple was a 56-54 victory on Feb. 12, 2006.
"Temple has not lost a home conference game this season," said Shafer. "We are looking forward to competing and trying to get out of Philly with a win."
Richmond travels to Fordham for a 7 pm tip-off Tuesday night.
