UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond shot a season-low 26.5 percent in a 66-57 loss to George Washington on Saturday night in the Robins Center.
A victory would have put the Spiders one game out of fourth-place with two games to go, but the Spiders fell behind by seven at the half and a late comeback attempt was not enough.
George Washington won for the third time in the last four games to improve to 10-16 overall and 4-10 in the Atlantic 10.
Richmond drops to 15-14 overall and 7-7 in the Atlantic 10 with two games remaining at Charlotte on Tuesday and home against No. 22 ranked Xavier next Saturday.
Spider junior David Gonzalvez scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Gonzalvez passed Rodney Rice (1985-88) for the 27th spot on the school's all-time career list with 1,108 points.
Sophomore Kevin Anderson had 11 points, while junior Ryan Butler had nine points and four steals.
Sophomore Justin Harper had eight points and five rebounds, while freshman Francis-Cedric Martel had six points and a career-high nine rebounds.
Richmond made just 18 field goals out of a season-high 68 attempts for a season-low 26.5 percent. The Spiders made just 8-of-30 from behind the arc for 26.7 percent.
Damian Hollis led the Colonials with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Travis King and Rob Diggs each had 13 points. George Washington made 46.9 percent of their shots, making 23-of-49.
Richmond had just 10 turnovers, compared to 20 for George Washington.
