BOCA RATON, Fla. -
Sophomore Kelly Tidwell clinched the game-winning match for the Spiders as they defeated Boston University, 4-3 in Boca Raton, Fla. The win marks Richmond's fourth in a row.
The Spiders were edged in doubles action as the No. 3 pair Xenia Schneider and Helen Cunningham lost to Cori Lefkowith/Danielle Abraham, 9-7. No. 1 Pamela Duran/Erin Clark rolled past Francine Whu/Stefanie Nunic, 8-4 while No. 2 pair Ashlee Vosters/Kelly Tidwell squeaked by Elizabeth Corrao/Petra Santini, 9-7.
In singles action, Duran, Tidwell, Joanna Matuszczyk and Vosters all recorded victories. Tidwell won the decisive match over Santini, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-2.
"Kelly clinched the match with the teams tied at 3 all," said head coach Mark Wesselink. Tidwell played smart, confident tennis under pressure. Her game is really coming together.Duran pulled out a tough match at #1 when we had to have it as did Vosters at #6. Matuszczyk was dominant at #5 to get jump start our
comeback."
The Spiders return to action next Wednesday at Virginia Tech. The match is set for 2:00 p.m.
