Richmond Head Coach Chris Mooney:
"I'm thrilled. This is a great win for us and certainly improves our seeding in Atlantic City. More importantly what it does for our confidence to beat a team and a program like Xavier is great. They're a great team and they have a lot of basketball left. I loved the way we competed and I thought we were aggressive all game long. We felt really good about how well we played especially it bveing the last game of the season. We didn't just settle for threes, we were aggressive throughout the game. Even when they played zone, which is something they rarely do, I thought we continued to be a aggressive and got some big second shots."
(On whether or not this was the best game Richmond has played since he's been the head coach) "Last year against Dayton we were pretty good and tonight would be the two I can think of."
(On the play of Kevin Anderson)
"Kevin's great and this isn't the first time I've seen him play like this. He was attacking and a high-degree of difficulty on some those shots. He felt very confident they were going to have a hard time guarding him and he really attacked the game. These are the kinds of games he's capable of having and we're thrilled he's just a sophomore."
Xavier Head Coach Sean Miller:
"We didn't have an answer for Kevin Anderson and we didn't have an answer for Richmond. I thought our offense was plenty good enough and our players wanted to win, but we didn't have that pop defensively that we needed."
"Kevin Anderson, my opinion, is the best point guard we've played against. He'll be the Player of the Year in our conference before his career is over. He could start on any team in America, barring three or four. He's a phenomenal player. He is dynamic. He is really good. We had no answer. It was like the highest level playing against a team and he almost gave us no chance to win. He played 40 minutes and had no turnovers. My hat off to him. Richmond is a hard team to guard in large part due to him, and Justin Harper had a big night as well which certainly helped them."
"When we're great on defense -- and that's why we won the conference -- we advance and we look good. When we get in shootouts like we were tonight and we don't have an answer on defense, we're like a lot of teams. We can win some and we can lose some. Tonight we lost in large part due to Richmond's high-level offense. Just terrific offense by them and we had no answer."
(More on Kevin Anderson):
"We played against Darren Collison of UCLA last year. I'll give him (Collison) one of the best point guards in American and he's (Anderson) very similar on the way he controls the game. He's a spectacular player."
